How To Install tnftp on Ubuntu 20.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install tnftp
on Ubuntu 20.04.
What is tnftp
tnftp is:
tnftp is what many users affectionately call the enhanced ftp client in NetBSD (http://www.netbsd.org).
This package is a `port’ of the NetBSD ftp client to other systems.
The enhancements over the standard ftp client in 4.4BSD include:
* command-line editing within ftp
* command-line fetching of URLS, including support for:
- http proxies (c.f: $http_proxy, $ftp_proxy)
- authentication
* context sensitive command and filename completion
* dynamic progress bar
* IPv6 support (from the WIDE project)
* modification time preservation
* paging of local and remote files, and of directory listings

There are three methods to install tnftp
on Ubuntu 20.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install tnftp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install tnftp
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tnftp

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install tnftp
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install tnftp
Install tnftp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install tnftp
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install tnftp
How To Uninstall tnftp on Ubuntu 20.04
To uninstall only the tnftp
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tnftp
Uninstall tnftp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall tnftp
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 20.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tnftp
Remove tnftp Configurations and Data
To remove tnftp
configuration and data from Ubuntu 20.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tnftp
Remove tnftp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove tnftp
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tnftp
