How To Install tmpwatch on Rocky Linux 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install tmpwatch
on Rocky Linux 8.
What is tmpwatch
The tmpwatch utility recursively searches through specified directories and removes files which have not been accessed in a specified period of time. Tmpwatch is normally used to clean up directories which are used for temporarily holding files (for example, /tmp). Tmpwatch ignores symlinks, won’t switch filesystems and only removes empty directories and regular files.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install tmpwatch
on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install tmpwatch.
Install tmpwatch on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install tmpwatch
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install tmpwatch
Install tmpwatch on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install tmpwatch
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install tmpwatch
How To Uninstall tmpwatch on Rocky Linux 8
To uninstall only the tmpwatch
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove tmpwatch
