How To Install tlp on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install tlp on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is tlp
tlp is:
TLP is an advanced power management tool for Linux. It comes with a default configuration already optimized for battery life. At the same time it is highly customizable to fulfil specific user requirements.
TLP supplies separate settings profiles for AC and battery power and can enable or disable bluetooth, WiFi and WWAN radio devices upon system startup.
For ThinkPads it provides a unified way to configure charging thresholds and recalibrate the battery for all models which support it (via tp-smapi or acpi-call).
TLP is a pure command line tool with automated background tasks, it does not contain a GUI.
There are three methods to install tlp on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install tlp Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install tlp using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tlp
Install tlp Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install tlp using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install tlp
Install tlp Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install tlp using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install tlp
How To Uninstall tlp on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the tlp package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tlp
Uninstall tlp And Its Dependencies
To uninstall tlp and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tlp
Remove tlp Configurations and Data
To remove tlp configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tlp
Remove tlp configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove tlp configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tlp
