How To Install tlp on AlmaLinux 8
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install tlp on AlmaLinux 8.
What is tlp
TLP is an advanced power management tool for Linux. It comes with a default configuration already optimized for battery life. At the same time it is highly customizable to fulfill specific user requirements. TLP supplies separate settings profiles for AC and battery power and can enable or disable Bluetooth, WiFi and WWAN radio devices upon system start-up. For ThinkPads it provides a unified way to configure charging thresholds and re-calibrate the battery for all models which support it (via tp-smapi or acpi-call). TLP is a pure command line tool with automated background tasks, it does not contain a GUI.
We can use yum or dnf to install tlp on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install tlp.
Install tlp on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install tlp using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install tlp
Install tlp on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install tlp using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install tlp
How To Uninstall tlp on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the tlp package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove tlp
