In this tutorial we learn how to install texlive-luatex on CentOS 8.
What is texlive-luatex
LuaTeX is an extended version of pdfTeX using Lua as an embedded scripting language. The LuaTeX project’s main objective is to provide an open and configurable variant of TeX while at the same time offering downward compatibility. LuaTeX uses Unicode (as UTF-8) as its default input encoding, and is able to use modern (OpenType) fonts (for both text and mathematics). It should be noted that LuaTeX is still under development; its specification has been declared stable, but absolute stability may not in practice be assumed.
We can use yum or dnf to install texlive-luatex on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install texlive-luatex.
Install texlive-luatex on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install texlive-luatex using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install texlive-luatex
Install texlive-luatex on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install texlive-luatex using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install texlive-luatex
How To Uninstall texlive-luatex on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the texlive-luatex package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove texlive-luatex
