In this tutorial we learn how to install texlive-babel on CentOS 8.
What is texlive-babel
The package manages culturally-determined typographical (and other) rules, and hyphenation patterns for a wide range of languages. A document may select a single language to be supported, or it may select several, in which case the document may switch from one language to another in a variety of ways. Note that the package has contributions for several languages that remain to be incorporated. Examples are (Hungarian); Serbian written in cyrillic; Spanish; and Spanish, using Mexican conventions.. Users of XeTeX are advised to use polyglossia rather than Babel.
We can use yum or dnf to install texlive-babel on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install texlive-babel.
Install texlive-babel on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install texlive-babel using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install texlive-babel
Install texlive-babel on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install texlive-babel using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install texlive-babel
How To Uninstall texlive-babel on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the texlive-babel package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove texlive-babel
