What is tcpser

tcpser is:

TCPSER turns a PC serial port into an emulated Hayes compatible modem that uses TCP/IP for incoming and outgoing connections. It can be used to allow older applications and systems designed for modem use to operate on the Internet. TCPSER supports all standard Hayes commands, and understands extended and vendor proprietary commands (though it does not implement many of them). TCPSER can be used for both inbound and outbound connections.

There are three methods to install tcpser on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install tcpser Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install tcpser using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install tcpser

Install tcpser Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install tcpser using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install tcpser

Install tcpser Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
