How To Install tcl-expect on Ubuntu 22.04

What is tcl-expect
tcl-expect is:
Expect is a tool for automating interactive applications according to a script. Following the script, Expect knows what can be expected from a program and what the correct response should be. Expect is also useful for testing these same applications. And by adding Tk, you can also wrap interactive applications in X11 GUIs. An interpreted language provides branching and high-level control structures to direct the dialogue. In addition, the user can take control and interact directly when desired, afterward returning control to the script.
This package contains the library and Tcl package Expect.
There are three methods to install tcl-expect
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install tcl-expect Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install tcl-expect
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tcl-expect

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install tcl-expect
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install tcl-expect
Install tcl-expect Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install tcl-expect
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install tcl-expect
How To Uninstall tcl-expect on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the tcl-expect
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tcl-expect
Uninstall tcl-expect And Its Dependencies
To uninstall tcl-expect
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tcl-expect
Remove tcl-expect Configurations and Data
To remove tcl-expect
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tcl-expect
Remove tcl-expect configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove tcl-expect
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tcl-expect
