In this tutorial we learn how to install tau-racy on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is tau-racy

tau-racy is:

TAU is a profiling toolkit specially made for parallel computing (multi-thread, multi-process, MPI, PVM).

RACY (Routine and data ACces profile displaY) is a GUI that graphically visualizes profiling data.

RACY has been superceded by a set of Java tools, and is no more actively developed. Unfortunately, those tools cannot build yet using free tools.

There are three methods to install tau-racy on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install tau-racy Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install tau-racy using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install tau-racy

Install tau-racy Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install tau-racy using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install tau-racy

Install tau-racy Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install tau-racy using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install tau-racy

How To Uninstall tau-racy on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the tau-racy package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove tau-racy

Remove tau-racy Configurations and Data

To remove tau-racy configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge tau-racy

Remove tau-racy configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove tau-racy configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tau-racy
