How To Install tack on Ubuntu 22.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install tack
on Ubuntu 22.04.
What is tack
tack is:
The ’tack’ program is a diagnostic tool that is designed to create and verify the correctness of terminfo’s. This program can be used to create new terminal descriptions that are not included in the standard ncurses release.
Although ’tack’ has been distributed with ncurses-bin, it is not an integral part of ncurses and was thus split out from it by upstream.
There are three methods to install tack
on Ubuntu 22.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install tack Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install tack
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install tack

After updating apt database, We can install tack
using apt
by running the following command:

Install tack Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude

After updating apt database, We can install tack

How To Uninstall tack on Ubuntu 22.04
To uninstall only the tack
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove tack
Uninstall tack And Its Dependencies
To uninstall tack
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 22.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove tack
Remove tack Configurations and Data
To remove tack
configuration and data from Ubuntu 22.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge tack
Remove tack configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge tack
