What is t3highlight

t3highlight is:

The libt3highlight library provides functions for syntax-highlighting different types of text files. Its main design goal is an easily restartable syntax highlighting, suitable for use in interactive text editors.

To make the syntax highlighting restartable, libt3highlight uses a single integer start-of-line state. However, it does provide several advanced features, such as dynamic end-of-state patterns, which make it possible to highlight complex languages like Perl and Bash with high fidelity.

This package contains the t3highlight program, which allows applying the syntax highlighting capabilities of libt3highlight on the command line to produce for example HTML output.

There are three methods to install t3highlight on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install t3highlight Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install t3highlight using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install t3highlight

Install t3highlight Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install t3highlight using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install t3highlight

Install t3highlight Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install t3highlight using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install t3highlight

How To Uninstall t3highlight on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the t3highlight package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove t3highlight

sudo apt-get -y purge t3highlight
