What is swi-prolog

swi-prolog is:

SWI-Prolog is a fast and powerful ISO/Edinburgh-style Prolog compiler with a rich set of built-in predicates. It offers a fast, robust and small environment which enables substantial applications to be developed with it.

SWI-Prolog additionally offers:

  • Unbounted integer and rational number arithmetic
  • Multithreading support
  • A powerful C/C++ interface
  • GNU Readline interface

This is a metapackage, it installs SWI-Prolog suit (except Java, ODBC, Berkeley DB support and tests).

There are three methods to install swi-prolog on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install swi-prolog Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install swi-prolog using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install swi-prolog

Install swi-prolog Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install swi-prolog using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install swi-prolog

Install swi-prolog Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install swi-prolog using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install swi-prolog

How To Uninstall swi-prolog on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the swi-prolog package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove swi-prolog

Uninstall swi-prolog And Its Dependencies

To uninstall swi-prolog and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove swi-prolog

Remove swi-prolog Configurations and Data

To remove swi-prolog configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge swi-prolog

Remove swi-prolog configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove swi-prolog configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge swi-prolog
