How To Install stumpwm on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install stumpwm on Kali Linux.
What is stumpwm
stumpwm is:
StumpWM is a window manager written entirely in Common Lisp. It attempts to be highly customizable while relying entirely on the keyboard for input. You will not find buttons, icons, title bars, tool bars, or any of the other conventional GUI widgets.
These design decisions reflect the growing popularity of productive, customizable lisp based systems.
Please ensure that you install compatible implementations of CL and CLX. That means either install sbcl and cl-clx-sbcl or cmucl and cmucl-source or clisp-module-clx only.
The suggested package, slime, lets you control a running StumpWM session through Emacs.
If you need Xinerama support, you need the xdpyinfo utility from the x11-utils package.
There are three methods to install stumpwm on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install stumpwm Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install stumpwm using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install stumpwmInstall stumpwm Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install stumpwm using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install stumpwmInstall stumpwm Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install stumpwm using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install stumpwmHow To Uninstall stumpwm on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the stumpwm package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove stumpwmUninstall stumpwm And Its Dependencies
To uninstall stumpwm and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove stumpwmRemove stumpwm Configurations and Data
To remove stumpwm configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge stumpwmRemove stumpwm configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove stumpwm configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge stumpwmDependencies
