What is stgit-contrib

Among others, this package provides the following helper scripts:

  • stg-gitk: show all patches in gitk, not only applied ones, and hide logs
  • stg-whatchanged: examine changes that would modify the current patch
  • stg-fold-files-from: pick specific hunks from another patch up the stack
  • stg-dispatch: dispatch specific hunks into another patch down the stack
  • stg-swallow: completely merge another patch into the current one
  • stg-k: provide robust –keep functionality to all stgit commands

Most of the functionality of these scripts may one day be incorporated into stgit.

There are three methods to install stgit-contrib on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install stgit-contrib Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install stgit-contrib using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install stgit-contrib

How To Uninstall stgit-contrib on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the stgit-contrib package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove stgit-contrib

Uninstall stgit-contrib And Its Dependencies

To uninstall stgit-contrib and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove stgit-contrib

Remove stgit-contrib Configurations and Data

To remove stgit-contrib configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge stgit-contrib

Remove stgit-contrib configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove stgit-contrib configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge stgit-contrib
