In this tutorial we learn how to install starlink-registry-java on Kali Linux.

starlink-registry-java is:

This package provides a set of classes which can be used to make lightweight queries of an RI 1.0-compliant IVOA registry. In the Virtual Observatory (VO), registries provide a means for discovering useful resources, i.e., data and services. Individual publishers offer the descriptions for their resources (“resource records”) in publishing registries.

This is not an all-singing or all-dancing registry client. The focus is on something which does a limited job fast and in a small memory footprint.

There are three methods to install starlink-registry-java on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install starlink-registry-java using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install starlink-registry-java

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install starlink-registry-java using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install starlink-registry-java

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install starlink-registry-java using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install starlink-registry-java

To uninstall only the starlink-registry-java package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove starlink-registry-java

To uninstall starlink-registry-java and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove starlink-registry-java

To remove starlink-registry-java configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge starlink-registry-java

We can use the following command to remove starlink-registry-java configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge starlink-registry-java
