How To Install stardict-gtk on Debian 9
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install stardict-gtk on Debian 9.
What is stardict-gtk
stardict-gtk is:
StarDict is a cross-platform and international dictionary written in GTK+ 2.x. It has powerful features such as “Glob-style pattern matching”, “Scan selection word”, “Fuzzy search”, etc.
This package is compiled without GNOME 2 support and contains only the program of stardict and will be of limited use without the dictionary files. For more information about how to get the dictionary files, please read /usr/share/doc/stardict/README.Debian.
There are three methods to install stardict-gtk on Debian 9. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install stardict-gtk Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install stardict-gtk using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install stardict-gtk
Install stardict-gtk Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install stardict-gtk using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install stardict-gtk
Install stardict-gtk Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install stardict-gtk using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install stardict-gtk
How To Uninstall stardict-gtk on Debian 9
To uninstall only the stardict-gtk package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove stardict-gtk
Uninstall stardict-gtk And Its Dependencies
To uninstall stardict-gtk and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 9, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove stardict-gtk
Remove stardict-gtk Configurations and Data
To remove stardict-gtk configuration and data from Debian 9 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge stardict-gtk
Remove stardict-gtk configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove stardict-gtk configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge stardict-gtk
