In this tutorial we learn how to install stardict-gnome on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is stardict-gnome

stardict-gnome is:

StarDict is a cross-platform and international dictionary written in GTK+ 2.x. It has powerful features such as “Glob-style pattern matching”, “Scan selection word”, “Fuzzy search”, etc.

This package is compiled with GNOME 2 support and contains only the program of stardict and will be of limited use without the dictionary files. For more information about how to get the dictionary files, please read /usr/share/doc/stardict/README.Debian.

There are three methods to install stardict-gnome on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install stardict-gnome Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install stardict-gnome using apt-get by running the following command:

After updating apt database, We can install stardict-gnome using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install stardict-gnome

How To Uninstall stardict-gnome on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the stardict-gnome package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove stardict-gnome

Uninstall stardict-gnome And Its Dependencies

To uninstall stardict-gnome and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove stardict-gnome

Remove stardict-gnome Configurations and Data

To remove stardict-gnome configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge stardict-gnome

Remove stardict-gnome configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove stardict-gnome configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge stardict-gnome
