How To Install stardict-gnome on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install stardict-gnome
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is stardict-gnome
stardict-gnome is:
StarDict is a cross-platform and international dictionary written in GTK+ 2.x. It has powerful features such as “Glob-style pattern matching”, “Scan selection word”, “Fuzzy search”, etc.
This package is compiled with GNOME 2 support and contains only the program of stardict and will be of limited use without the dictionary files. For more information about how to get the dictionary files, please read /usr/share/doc/stardict/README.Debian.
There are three methods to install stardict-gnome
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install stardict-gnome Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install stardict-gnome
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install stardict-gnome
Install stardict-gnome Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install stardict-gnome
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install stardict-gnome
Install stardict-gnome Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install stardict-gnome
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install stardict-gnome
How To Uninstall stardict-gnome on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the stardict-gnome
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove stardict-gnome
Uninstall stardict-gnome And Its Dependencies
To uninstall stardict-gnome
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove stardict-gnome
Remove stardict-gnome Configurations and Data
To remove stardict-gnome
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge stardict-gnome
Remove stardict-gnome configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove stardict-gnome
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge stardict-gnome
