How To Install squeezelite on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install squeezelite on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is squeezelite
squeezelite is:
Squeezelite is a small headless Squeezebox emulator. It is aimed at supporting high quality audio including USB DAC based output at multiple sample rates.
It supports decoding PCM (WAV/AIFF), FLAC, MP3, Ogg, AAC, WMA and ALAC audio formats. It can also resample audio, which allows squeezelite to upsample the output to the highest sample rate supported by the output device.
This package is built with the resampling, ffmpeg and visualisation export options. It uses ALSA for audio output.
There are three methods to install squeezelite on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install squeezelite Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install squeezelite using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install squeezelite
Install squeezelite Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install squeezelite using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install squeezelite
Install squeezelite Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install squeezelite using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install squeezelite
How To Uninstall squeezelite on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the squeezelite package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove squeezelite
Uninstall squeezelite And Its Dependencies
To uninstall squeezelite and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove squeezelite
Remove squeezelite Configurations and Data
To remove squeezelite configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge squeezelite
Remove squeezelite configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove squeezelite configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge squeezelite
