on AlmaLinux 8.
What is smartmontools
The smartmontools package contains two utility programs (smartctl and smartd) to control and monitor storage systems using the Self- Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System (SMART) built into most modern ATA and SCSI hard disks. In many cases, these utilities will provide advanced warning of disk degradation and failure.
We can use yum
or dnf
to install smartmontools
on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install smartmontools.
Install smartmontools on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf
using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install smartmontools
using dnf
by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install smartmontools
Install smartmontools on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum
using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install smartmontools
using yum
by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install smartmontools
How To Uninstall smartmontools on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the smartmontools
package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove smartmontools
