How To Install smart-notifier on Debian 12
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install smart-notifier
on Debian 12.
What is smart-notifier
smart-notifier is:
A graphical notifier for smartmontools which attempts to show messages from the smartd disk monitoring daemon to the user. Currently only for gtk.
WARNING: This package is not a replacement for regular backups. It will try to warn the user when smartd sends a disk health warning. But success is not guaranteed. At best this package is an extra layer of protection.
There are three methods to install smart-notifier
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get

and aptitude

Install smart-notifier Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get

sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install smart-notifier

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install smart-notifier
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install smart-notifier
How To Uninstall smart-notifier on Debian 12
To uninstall only the smart-notifier
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove smart-notifier
Uninstall smart-notifier And Its Dependencies
To uninstall smart-notifier
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove smart-notifier
Remove smart-notifier Configurations and Data
To remove smart-notifier
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge smart-notifier
