In this tutorial we learn how to install skkdic-cdb on Kali Linux.

What is skkdic-cdb

skkdic-cdb is:

This package provides SKK-JISYO.cdb', the standard dictionary file for SKK Japanese input systems, converted to constant database (cdb) for faster access. Currently, this package contains the large size dictionary file SKK-JISYO.L.cdb’ as the standard dictionary file.

Since this dictionary is a cdb file, it requires cdb support for accessing. SKK dictionary servers dbskkd-cdb and skksearch can handle cdb-style dictionaries, but ddskk cannot in itself.

The original plain text version of this dictionary is provided by the skkdic package. Other dictionary files, such as zipcode, personal names, small size, are provided by the skkdic-extra package. To merge or edit dictionaries, install the skktools package.

There are three methods to install skkdic-cdb on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install skkdic-cdb Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install skkdic-cdb using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install skkdic-cdb

Install skkdic-cdb Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install skkdic-cdb using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install skkdic-cdb

Install skkdic-cdb Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install skkdic-cdb using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install skkdic-cdb

How To Uninstall skkdic-cdb on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the skkdic-cdb package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove skkdic-cdb

To uninstall skkdic-cdb and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
