In this tutorial we learn how to install shorewall6-lite on CentOS 8.
What is shorewall6-lite
Shorewall6 Lite is a companion product to Shorewall6 (the IPV6 firewall) that allows network administrators to centralize the configuration of Shorewall-based firewalls. Shorewall Lite runs a firewall script generated by a machine with a Shorewall rule compiler. A machine running Shorewall Lite does not need to have a Shorewall rule compiler installed.
We can use yum or dnf to install shorewall6-lite on CentOS 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install shorewall6-lite.
Install shorewall6-lite on CentOS 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache
After updating yum database, We can install shorewall6-lite using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install shorewall6-lite
Install shorewall6-lite on CentOS 8 Using dnf
If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first.
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache
After updating yum database, We can install shorewall6-lite using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install shorewall6-lite
How To Uninstall shorewall6-lite on CentOS 8
To uninstall only the shorewall6-lite package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove shorewall6-lite
