What is `shorewall-lite`

Shorewall Lite is a companion product to Shorewall that allows network administrators to centralize the configuration of Shorewall-based firewalls. Shorewall Lite runs a firewall script generated by a machine with a Shorewall rule compiler. A machine running Shorewall Lite does not need to have a Shorewall rule compiler installed.

We can use yum or dnf to install shorewall-lite on Rocky Linux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install shorewall-lite.

Install shorewall-lite on Rocky Linux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install shorewall-lite using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install shorewall-lite

Install shorewall-lite on Rocky Linux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install shorewall-lite using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install shorewall-lite
