What is shorewall-init

shorewall-init is:

This package provides two related features:

a)  It allows the firewall to be closed prior to bringing up
    network devices. This insures that unwanted connections are not
    allowed between the time that the network comes up and when the
    firewall is started.

b)  It integrates with NetworkManager and distribution ifup/ifdown
    systems to allow for 'event-driven' startup and shutdown.

The two facilities can be enabled separately.

When Shorewall-init is first installed, it does nothing until you configure it.

There are three methods to install shorewall-init on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install shorewall-init Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install shorewall-init using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install shorewall-init

Install shorewall-init Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install shorewall-init using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install shorewall-init

Install shorewall-init Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install shorewall-init using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install shorewall-init

How To Uninstall shorewall-init on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the shorewall-init package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove shorewall-init

Uninstall shorewall-init And Its Dependencies

To uninstall shorewall-init and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove shorewall-init

Remove shorewall-init Configurations and Data

To remove shorewall-init configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge shorewall-init

Remove shorewall-init configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove shorewall-init configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge shorewall-init
