What is shadow-utils

The shadow-utils package includes the necessary programs for converting UNIX password files to the shadow password format, plus programs for managing user and group accounts. The pwconv command converts passwords to the shadow password format. The pwunconv command unconverts shadow passwords and generates a passwd file (a standard UNIX password file). The pwck command checks the integrity of password and shadow files. The lastlog command prints out the last login times for all users. The useradd, userdel, and usermod commands are used for managing user accounts. The groupadd, groupdel, and groupmod commands are used for managing group accounts. Install shadow-utils on CentOS 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install shadow-utils using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install shadow-utils

Install shadow-utils on CentOS 8 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install shadow-utils using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install shadow-utils

How To Uninstall shadow-utils on CentOS 8

To uninstall only the shadow-utils package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove shadow-utils
