In this tutorial we learn how to install scim-chewing on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is scim-chewing

scim-chewing is:

SCIM (Smart Common Input Method) is an input method (IM) platform.

This package is the chewing IM engine module for SCIM. With this module, you can use intelligent Chinese input method with HanYu PinYin keyboard and a various of ZhuYin(bopomofo) keyboards.

There are three methods to install scim-chewing on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install scim-chewing Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install scim-chewing using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install scim-chewing

Install scim-chewing Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install scim-chewing using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install scim-chewing

Install scim-chewing Using aptitude
