How To Install scilab-ann on Ubuntu 18.04

In this tutorial we learn how to install scilab-ann on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is scilab-ann
scilab-ann is:
This module implements artificial neural networks capabilities into the Scilab language. Current features are:
- Only layered feedforward networks are supported directly at the moment (for others use the “hooks” provided)
- Unlimited number of layers
- Unlimited number of neurons per each layer separately
- User defined activation function (defaults to logistic)
- User defined error function (defaults to SSE)
- Algorithms implemented so far:
- standard (vanilla) with or without bias, on-line or batch
- momentum with or without bias, on-line or batch
- SuperSAB with or without bias, on-line or batch
- Conjugate gradients
- Jacobian computation
- Computation of result of multiplication between “vector” and Hessian
- Some helper functions provided
There are three methods to install scilab-ann on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install scilab-ann Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install scilab-ann using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install scilab-ann
Install scilab-ann Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install scilab-ann using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install scilab-ann
Install scilab-ann Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install scilab-ann using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install scilab-ann
How To Uninstall scilab-ann on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the scilab-ann package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove scilab-ann
Uninstall scilab-ann And Its Dependencies
To uninstall scilab-ann and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove scilab-ann
Remove scilab-ann Configurations and Data
To remove scilab-ann configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge scilab-ann
Remove scilab-ann configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove scilab-ann configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge scilab-ann
