How To Install scalpel on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install scalpel on Kali Linux.
What is scalpel
scalpel is:
scalpel is a fast file carver that reads a database of header and footer definitions and extracts matching files from a set of image files or raw device files.
scalpel is filesystem-independent and will carve files from FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, JFS, XFS, ReiserFS, raw partitions, etc.
scalpel is a complete rewrite of the Foremost 0.69 file carver and is useful for both digital forensics investigations and file recovery.
There are three methods to install scalpel on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install scalpel Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install scalpel using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install scalpelInstall scalpel Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install scalpel using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install scalpelInstall scalpel Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install scalpel using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install scalpelHow To Uninstall scalpel on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the scalpel package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove scalpelUninstall scalpel And Its Dependencies
To uninstall scalpel and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove scalpelRemove scalpel Configurations and Data
To remove scalpel configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge scalpelRemove scalpel configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove scalpel configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge scalpelDependencies
