What is salt-pepper

salt-pepper is:

pepperlib abstracts the HTTP calls to salt-api so existing Python projects can easily integrate with a remote Salt installation just by instantiating a class.

The pepper CLI script allows users to execute Salt commands from computers that are external to computers running the salt-master or salt-minion daemons as though they were running Salt locally.

There are three methods to install salt-pepper on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install salt-pepper Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install salt-pepper using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install salt-pepper

Install salt-pepper Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install salt-pepper using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install salt-pepper

Install salt-pepper Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install salt-pepper using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install salt-pepper

How To Uninstall salt-pepper on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the salt-pepper package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove salt-pepper

Uninstall salt-pepper And Its Dependencies

To uninstall salt-pepper and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove salt-pepper

Remove salt-pepper Configurations and Data

To remove salt-pepper configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge salt-pepper

Remove salt-pepper configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove salt-pepper configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge salt-pepper
