How To Install rygel on Debian 12

What is rygel
rygel is:
Rygel is a home media solution that allows you to easily share audio, video and pictures, and control of media player on your home network. In technical terms it is both a UPnP AV MediaServer and MediaRenderer implemented through a plug-in mechanism. Interoperability with other devices in the market is achieved by conformance to very strict requirements of DLNA and on the fly conversion of media to format that client devices are capable of handling.
This package contains the core of Rygel and following plugins:
- media-export: Recursively exports folders and files specified in the user configuration. This plugin supports all types of URIs that gio/gvfs and GStreamer can handle.
- external: A MediaServer plugin that exports media hierarchies provided by external applications.
- mpris: Export of media players that implement MPRIS2 D-Bus interface, as MediaRenderer devices.
There are three methods to install rygel on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rygel Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rygel using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rygel
Install rygel Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rygel using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rygel
Install rygel Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rygel using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rygel
How To Uninstall rygel on Debian 12
To uninstall only the rygel package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rygel
Uninstall rygel And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rygel and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rygel
Remove rygel Configurations and Data
To remove rygel configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rygel
Remove rygel configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove rygel configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rygel
