What is runit-systemd

runit-systemd is:

runit is a collection of tools to provide system-wide service supervision and to manage services. Contrary to sysv init, it not only cares about starting and stopping services, but also supervises the service daemons while they are running. Amongst other things, it provides a reliable interface to send signals to service daemons without the need for pid-files, and a log facility with automatic log file rotation and disk space limits.

This package provides service file to start runit supervision via systemd.

There are three methods to install runit-systemd on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install runit-systemd Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install runit-systemd using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install runit-systemd

Install runit-systemd Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install runit-systemd using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install runit-systemd

Install runit-systemd Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install runit-systemd using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install runit-systemd

How To Uninstall runit-systemd on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the runit-systemd package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove runit-systemd

Uninstall runit-systemd And Its Dependencies

To uninstall runit-systemd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove runit-systemd

Remove runit-systemd Configurations and Data

To remove runit-systemd configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge runit-systemd

Remove runit-systemd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove runit-systemd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge runit-systemd
