How To Install ruby-timeliness on Ubuntu 18.04
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ruby-timeliness
on Ubuntu 18.04.
What is ruby-timeliness
ruby-timeliness is:
Date/time parser for Ruby with the following features:
- Extensible with custom formats and tokens.
- It’s pretty fast. Up to 60% faster than Time/Date parse method.
- Control the parser strictness.
- Control behaviour of ambiguous date formats (US vs European e.g. mm/dd/yy, dd/mm/yy).
- I18n support (for months), if I18n gem loaded.
- Fewer WTFs than Time/Date parse method.
Extracted from the validates_timeliness gem, it has been rewritten cleaner and much faster. It’s most suitable for when you need to control the parsing behaviour. It’s faster than the Time/Date class parse methods, so it has eneral appeal.
There are three methods to install ruby-timeliness
on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ruby-timeliness Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-timeliness
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ruby-timeliness

Update apt database with apt

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-timeliness

Install ruby-timeliness Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-timeliness
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ruby-timeliness
How To Uninstall ruby-timeliness on Ubuntu 18.04
To uninstall only the ruby-timeliness
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ruby-timeliness
Uninstall ruby-timeliness And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ruby-timeliness
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-timeliness
Remove ruby-timeliness Configurations and Data
To remove ruby-timeliness
configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ruby-timeliness
Remove ruby-timeliness configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
