How To Install ruby-growl on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ruby-growl on Kali Linux.
What is ruby-growl
ruby-growl is:
A pure-ruby growl notifier for UDP and GNTP growl protocols. ruby-growl allows you to perform Growl notifications from machines without growl installed (for example, non-OSX machines).
What is growl? Growl is a really cool “global notification system originally for Mac OS X”.
You can receive Growl notifications on various platforms and send them from any machine that runs Ruby.
ruby-growl also contains a command-line notification tool named ‘growl’. It is almost completely option-compatible with growlnotify. (All except for -p is supported, use –priority instead.)
There are three methods to install ruby-growl on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ruby-growl Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ruby-growl using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ruby-growlInstall ruby-growl Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ruby-growl using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ruby-growlInstall ruby-growl Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install ruby-growl using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ruby-growlHow To Uninstall ruby-growl on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the ruby-growl package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ruby-growlUninstall ruby-growl And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ruby-growl and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-growlRemove ruby-growl Configurations and Data
To remove ruby-growl configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ruby-growlRemove ruby-growl configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove ruby-growl configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
