How To Install ruby-gettext on Debian 10

What is ruby-gettext
ruby-gettext is:
This Ruby package is a localization library and toolset modeled after GNU gettext, and with a similar simple API.
It provides:
- rxgettext - creates gettext-compatible PO files from Ruby scripts;
- rmsginit - create a new PO file with user’s environment and input;
- rmsgfmt - creates a MO file from a PO file;
- rmsgmerge - extracts translatable strings from Ruby scripts.
There are three methods to install ruby-gettext
on Debian 10. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ruby-gettext Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ruby-gettext
using apt-get

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install ruby-gettext
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ruby-gettext
How To Uninstall ruby-gettext on Debian 10
To uninstall only the ruby-gettext
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ruby-gettext
Uninstall ruby-gettext And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ruby-gettext
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ruby-gettext
