In this tutorial we learn how to install rtpengine on Debian 12.
What is rtpengine
rtpengine is:
Sipwise NGCP rtpengine is a proxy for RTP traffic and other UDP based media traffic. It’s meant to be used with the Kamailio SIP proxy and forms a drop-in replacement for any of the other available RTP and media proxies.
This is a metapackage for easy installation of all four parts of the NGCP media proxy. It will install the user-space daemon, the kernel-space IPtables module, the IPtables extension module and utility scripts.
There are three methods to install rtpengine on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rtpengine Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rtpengine using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rtpengine
Install rtpengine Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rtpengine using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rtpengine
Install rtpengine Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rtpengine using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rtpengine
How To Uninstall rtpengine on Debian 12
To uninstall only the rtpengine package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rtpengine
Uninstall rtpengine And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rtpengine and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rtpengine
Remove rtpengine Configurations and Data
To remove rtpengine configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rtpengine
