How To Install rtags on Debian 12

on Debian 12.
What is rtags
rtags is:
RTags is a client/server application that indexes C/C++ code and keeps a persistent file-based database of references, declarations, definitions, symbolnames etc. There??s also limited support for ObjC/ObjC++. It allows you to find symbols by name (including nested class and namespace scope). Most importantly it gives you proper follow-symbol and find-references support. It also have neat little things like rename-symbol, integration with clang??s ??fixits?? (https://clang.llvm.org/diagnostics.html).
There are three methods to install rtags
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rtags Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rtags
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rtags
Install rtags Using apt
Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rtags
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rtags
Install rtags Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude

After updating apt database, We can install rtags
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install rtags
How To Uninstall rtags on Debian 12
To uninstall only the rtags
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rtags
Uninstall rtags And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rtags
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rtags
Remove rtags Configurations and Data
To remove rtags
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rtags
