In this tutorial we learn how to install rt4-fcgi on Ubuntu 18.04.

What is rt4-fcgi

rt4-fcgi is:

Request Tracker (RT) is a ticketing system which enables a group of people to intelligently and efficiently manage tasks, issues, and requests submitted by a community of users. It features web, email, and command-line interfaces (see the package rt4-clients).

RT manages key tasks such as the identification, prioritization, assignment, resolution, and notification required by enterprise-critical applications, including project management, help desk, NOC ticketing, CRM, and software development.

This package provides the 4 series of RT. It can be installed alongside the 3.8 series without any problems.

This package provides an external FCGI interface for web servers including, but not limited to, nginx, and is not needed for web servers such as Apache which invoke FCGI programs directly.

There are three methods to install rt4-fcgi on Ubuntu 18.04. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install rt4-fcgi Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install rt4-fcgi using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install rt4-fcgi

Install rt4-fcgi Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install rt4-fcgi using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install rt4-fcgi

Install rt4-fcgi Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install rt4-fcgi using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install rt4-fcgi

How To Uninstall rt4-fcgi on Ubuntu 18.04

To uninstall only the rt4-fcgi package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove rt4-fcgi

Uninstall rt4-fcgi And Its Dependencies

To uninstall rt4-fcgi and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu 18.04, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove rt4-fcgi

Remove rt4-fcgi Configurations and Data

To remove rt4-fcgi configuration and data from Ubuntu 18.04 we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge rt4-fcgi

Remove rt4-fcgi configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove rt4-fcgi configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rt4-fcgi
