In this tutorial we learn how to install rsh on CentOS 7.

What is rsh

The rsh package contains a set of programs which allow users to run commands on remote machines, login to other machines and copy files between machines (rsh, rlogin and rcp). All three of these commands use rhosts style authentication. This package contains the clients needed for all of these services. The rsh package should be installed to enable remote access to other machines

We can use yum or dnf to install rsh on CentOS 7. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install rsh.

Install rsh on CentOS 7 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache

After updating yum database, We can install rsh using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install rsh

Install rsh on CentOS 7 Using dnf

If you don’t have dnf installed you can install DNF on CentOS 7 first. Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache

After updating yum database, We can install rsh using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install rsh

How To Uninstall rsh on CentOS 7

To uninstall only the rsh package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove rsh
