How To Install rosidl-core on Debian 12

What is rosidl-core

This package is part of ROS 2, the Robot Operating System. ROS 2 uses the OMG Data Distribution Standard (DDS) as middleware layer, which in turn relies on the Interface Definition Language (IDL) to define the messages which can be exchanged between ROS network participants. For historical reasons, ROS has its own message definition format; the ROS 2 IDL support layer is responsible for transforming the ROS message format to the IDL format.
This metapackage depends on the core packages for ROS 2 IDL support.
There are three methods to install rosidl-core
on Debian 12. We can use apt-get

and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rosidl-core Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rosidl-core
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rosidl-core

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rosidl-core
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rosidl-core
Install rosidl-core Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rosidl-core
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rosidl-core
How To Uninstall rosidl-core on Debian 12
To uninstall only the rosidl-core
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rosidl-core
Uninstall rosidl-core And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rosidl-core
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rosidl-core
Remove rosidl-core Configurations and Data
To remove rosidl-core
configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rosidl-core
Remove rosidl-core configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove rosidl-core
configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rosidl-core
