Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ripit on Kali Linux.

What is ripit

ripit is:

ripit runs in text mode (no fancy GUI here) and does everything required to produce a set of mp3, ogg, flac, m4a files without any user-intervention.

ripit does the following with an Audio CD:

  • Get the audio CD Album/Artist/Tracks information from CDDB
  • Get the audio CD Album/Artist/Tracks information from Musicbrainz
  • Rip the audio CD Tracks (using cdparanoia or other cdrippers)
  • Encode the files (using lame, oggvorbis flac and/or faac)
  • ID3 tag them (v1 & v2)
  • Optional: creates a playlist (M3U) file (lists MP3s created, used by various MP3 players)
  • Optional: Prepares and sends a CDDB submission.
  • Optional: Saves the CDDB file.

There are three methods to install ripit on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ripit Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ripit using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ripit

Install ripit Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ripit using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ripit

Install ripit Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ripit using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ripit

How To Uninstall ripit on Kali Linux

To uninstall only the ripit package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ripit

Uninstall ripit And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ripit and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ripit

Remove ripit Configurations and Data

To remove ripit configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ripit

Remove ripit configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ripit configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ripit
