How To Install rio on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install rio on Kali Linux.
What is rio
rio is:
rio is a Diamond Rio MP3 CLI controller program The home website is http://www.world.co.uk/sba This program supports file uploads and downloads, on both the Classic Rio and the 64 Meg Rio, and supports plug in cards.
The default port is 0x378, if your rio is plugged into a different port, you will need to use the -p option.
This program directly controls various IOports. The program need to be run as root, or setuid root.
If you execute the following line as root after package installation, the program will be setuid root.
chmod 4755 /usr/bin/rio
Do NOT do that unless you understand the security implications of a setuid binary that can “easily” overwrite any system file.
There are three methods to install rio on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rio Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rio using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rioInstall rio Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rio using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rioInstall rio Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rio using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rioHow To Uninstall rio on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the rio package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rioUninstall rio And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rio and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rioRemove rio Configurations and Data
To remove rio configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rioRemove rio configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove rio configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rioDependencies
