How To Install rinetd on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install rinetd on Kali Linux.
What is rinetd
rinetd is:
rinetd redirects TCP connections from one IP address and port to another, with basic IP-based access control.
rinetd is a single-process server which handles any number of connections to the address/port pairs specified in the file /etc/rinetd.conf. Since rinetd runs as a single process using nonblocking I/O, it is able to redirect a large number of connections without a severe impact on the machine. This makes it practical to run services on machines inside an IP masquerading firewall.
There are three methods to install rinetd on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rinetd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rinetd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rinetdInstall rinetd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rinetd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rinetdInstall rinetd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rinetd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rinetdHow To Uninstall rinetd on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the rinetd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rinetdUninstall rinetd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rinetd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rinetdRemove rinetd Configurations and Data
To remove rinetd configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rinetdRemove rinetd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove rinetd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rinetdDependencies
