How To Install revolt on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install revolt on Kali Linux.
What is revolt
revolt is:
Revolt is a small application which wraps the Element webapp to provide better integration with desktop environments in general, and GNOME in particular:
- Having Element as a “standalone” application with its own window, launcher, icon, etc. instead of it living in a browser tab.
- Persistent notifications (for desktop environments supporting them, i.e. GNOME). Notifications are automatically prevented when the Revolt window is focused.
- Status icon for desktop environment which have a tray bar applet (XFCE, Budgie, likely many others).
Element is a chat client for Matrix, an open, federated communications protocol.
There are three methods to install revolt on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install revolt Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install revolt using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install revoltInstall revolt Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install revolt using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install revoltInstall revolt Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install revolt using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install revoltHow To Uninstall revolt on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the revolt package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove revoltUninstall revolt And Its Dependencies
To uninstall revolt and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove revoltRemove revolt Configurations and Data
To remove revolt configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge revoltRemove revolt configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove revolt configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge revoltDependencies
