How To Install relion-gui on Debian 12

In this tutorial we learn how to install relion-gui on Debian 12.
What is relion-gui
relion-gui is:
RELION (for REgularised LIkelihood OptimisatioN) is a stand-alone computer program for Maximum A Posteriori refinement of (multiple) 3D reconstructions or 2D class averages in cryo-electron microscopy.
RELION provides a GUI, several command-line tools in parallel (MPI) and serial versions, optionally with CUDA/GPU support.
relion-gui provides the graphical user interface without CUDA/GPU support.
There are three methods to install relion-gui on Debian 12. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install relion-gui Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install relion-gui using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install relion-gui
Install relion-gui Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install relion-gui using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install relion-gui
Install relion-gui Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install relion-gui using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install relion-gui
How To Uninstall relion-gui on Debian 12
To uninstall only the relion-gui package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove relion-gui
Uninstall relion-gui And Its Dependencies
To uninstall relion-gui and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 12, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove relion-gui
Remove relion-gui Configurations and Data
To remove relion-gui configuration and data from Debian 12 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge relion-gui
