How To Install rdiff-backup on AlmaLinux 8

What is rdiff-backup
rdiff-backup is a script, written in Python, that backs up one directory to another and is intended to be run periodically (nightly from cron for instance). The target directory ends up a copy of the source directory, but extra reverse diffs are stored in the target directory, so you can still recover files lost some time ago. The idea is to combine the best features of a mirror and an incremental backup. rdiff-backup can also operate in a bandwidth efficient manner over a pipe, like rsync. Thus you can use rdiff-backup and ssh to securely back a hard drive up to a remote location, and only the differences from the previous backup will be transmitted.
We can use yum or dnf to install rdiff-backup on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install rdiff-backup.
Install rdiff-backup on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install rdiff-backup using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install rdiff-backup
Install rdiff-backup on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install rdiff-backup using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install rdiff-backup
How To Uninstall rdiff-backup on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the rdiff-backup package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove rdiff-backup
