In this tutorial we learn how to install rcs on AlmaLinux 8.
What is rcs
The Revision Control System (RCS) is a system for managing multiple versions of files. RCS automates the storage, retrieval, logging, identification and merging of file revisions. RCS is useful for text files that are revised frequently (for example, programs, documentation, graphics, papers and form letters). The rcs package should be installed if you need a system for managing different versions of files.
We can use yum or dnf to install rcs on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install rcs.
Install rcs on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf
Update yum database with dnf using the following command.
sudo dnf makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install rcs using dnf by running the following command:
sudo dnf -y install rcs
Install rcs on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum
Update yum database with yum using the following command.
sudo yum makecache --refresh
After updating yum database, We can install rcs using yum by running the following command:
sudo yum -y install rcs
How To Uninstall rcs on AlmaLinux 8
To uninstall only the rcs package we can use the following command:
sudo dnf remove rcs
