What is ranger

Ranger is a free console file manager that gives you greater flexibility and a good overview of your files without having to leave your *nix console. It visualizes the directory tree in two dimensions one, lists of files on the other, with a preview to the right so you know where you’ll be going.

We can use yum or dnf to install ranger on AlmaLinux 8. In this tutorial we discuss both methods but you only need to choose one of method to install ranger.

Install ranger on AlmaLinux 8 Using dnf

Update yum database with dnf using the following command.

sudo dnf makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install ranger using dnf by running the following command:

sudo dnf -y install ranger

Install ranger on AlmaLinux 8 Using yum

Update yum database with yum using the following command.

sudo yum makecache --refresh

After updating yum database, We can install ranger using yum by running the following command:

sudo yum -y install ranger

How To Uninstall ranger on AlmaLinux 8

To uninstall only the ranger package we can use the following command:

sudo dnf remove ranger
