How To Install rake on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install rake on Kali Linux.
What is rake
rake is:
Rake is a simple ruby build program with capabilities similar to make.
Rake has the following features:
- Rakefiles (rakes version of Makefiles) are completely defined in standard Ruby syntax. No XML files to edit. No quirky Makefile syntax to worry about (is that a tab or a space?)
- Users can specify tasks with prerequisites.
- Rake supports rule patterns to sythesize implicit tasks.
- Rake is lightweight. It can be distributed with other projects as a single file. Projects that depend upon rake do not require that rake be installed on target systems.
There are three methods to install rake on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rake Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rake using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rakeInstall rake Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rake using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rakeInstall rake Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install rake using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rakeHow To Uninstall rake on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the rake package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove rakeUninstall rake And Its Dependencies
To uninstall rake and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove rakeRemove rake Configurations and Data
To remove rake configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge rakeRemove rake configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove rake configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge rakeDependencies
