How To Install rake on Debian 10
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install rake on Debian 10.
What is rake
rake is:
Rake is a simple ruby build program with capabilities similar to make.
Rake has the following features:
- Rakefiles (rakes version of Makefiles) are completely defined in standard Ruby syntax. No XML files to edit. No quirky Makefile syntax to worry about (is that a tab or a space?)
- Users can specify tasks with prerequisites.
- Rake supports rule patterns to sythesize implicit tasks.
- Rake is lightweight. It can be distributed with other projects as a single file. Projects that depend upon rake do not require that rake be installed on target systems.
There are three methods to install rake on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install rake Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install rake using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install rake
Install rake Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install rake using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install rake
Install rake Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install rake using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install rake
How To Uninstall rake on Debian 10
To uninstall only the rake package we can use the following command:
