How To Install quagga-core on Debian 10

In this tutorial we learn how to install quagga-core on Debian 10.
What is quagga-core
quagga-core is:
GNU Quagga is free software which manages TCP/IP based routing protocols. It supports BGP4, BGP4+, OSPFv2, OSPFv3, IS-IS, RIPv1, RIPv2, and RIPng as well as the IPv6 versions of these.
As the predecessor Zebra has been considered orphaned, the Quagga project has been formed by members of the zebra mailing list and the former zebra-pj project to continue developing.
Quagga uses threading if the kernel supports it, but can also run on kernels that do not support threading. Each protocol has its own daemon.
It is more than a routed replacement, it can be used as a Route Server and a Route Reflector.
This package provides the zebra daemon, vtysh shell, and framework used by the protocol-specific daemons.
There are three methods to install quagga-core on Debian 10. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install quagga-core Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install quagga-core using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install quagga-core
Install quagga-core Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install quagga-core using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install quagga-core
Install quagga-core Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Debian. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install quagga-core using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install quagga-core
How To Uninstall quagga-core on Debian 10
To uninstall only the quagga-core package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove quagga-core
Uninstall quagga-core And Its Dependencies
To uninstall quagga-core and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Debian 10, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove quagga-core
Remove quagga-core Configurations and Data
To remove quagga-core configuration and data from Debian 10 we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge quagga-core
Remove quagga-core configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
